The street photographer can be seen as an extension of the flâneur, an observer of the street .a person who records everyday life in a public place. The very publicness of the setting enables the photographer to take candid pictures of strangers, often without their knowledge. Street photographers do not necessarily have a social purpose in mind, but they prefer to isolate and capture moments which might otherwise go unnoticed.the street photographer is similar to social documentary photographers or photojournalists who also work in public places, but with the aim of capturing newsworthy events; any of these photographers’ images may capture people and property visible within or from public places.

    Nicolas Ettori

I was born in 1987 in Montpellier (south of France) where i grew up and now i live in Paris. Self-taught, my passion for photography comes from my love of skateboarding: wanting to capture tricks in motion and freeze them forever. Later my interests went beyond the sport to where I find myself today in the world of street photography. I like to capture the moments of life, to compose and frame the world with what the street offers at every moment.
I try to highlight the details, play between the light and shade, observe the reflections, and let the geometry dictate the angle of my shots, all of which come together to create my own style.
I’ve recently started analog photography because it needs to be triggered more carefully and i like having to wait the development of the film before seeing the result.

    About The Collection

Human condition is the main subject of my photography, I use several resources to express my ideas in photography like perspective and scale,
my images are too intimate, I believe being too close to my subject help me create powerful images.
My work is about people like a whole genre, I prefer to create anonymous subjects
and for that I like to work with backlight to create high contrast black and white images in a more graphic sense.
I also like to shot minimal and very clean images and for that I use very low angles in places with almost no distractions like beaches and open spaces,
I like to work light and usually I use one camera (Fuji or Leica) and one lens (28 or 35 mm).
I understand my work as timeless images of the human condition.

I do my best to practice on the streets of my home town as often as possible. When I am not photographing I enjoy playing samba (batucada). I’m a founder of flaneurs photo collective.

    About The Collection

Personally, I don’t really like the term “street photography” simply because it’s misleading and untrue. To me it’s about everyday, seemingly mundane, candid images of strangers in public places so not necessarily a street. When I’m out taking photographs, I try to be open hearted and embrace situations as they happen in front of me. I am a patient observer of reality, rather distant than intruding. Simple, humane events as well as those surreal ones are what I look for.

    About The Collection

The name of Francesco’s street photography project is Urbanity. The term “Urbanity” is the union of the words “urban” and “humanity”.
Francesco tries to tell the life and the movements of people in cities, through his eye. His style is made of strong contrasts.
When he is on the street he tells what he see using light to obtain unusual and sometimes abstract images.
Francesco uses the light to show only what he want and everything else turns black.
In 2019 Urbanity has also become a book, an homage to Turin, his city.

I tend to spend a good part of my free time doing urban walks and looking for new views of the city. I have obtained a collection of photographs in Latin American cities among which they are; Caracas, Havana, Buenos Aires, Mendoza and Santiago de Chile.

    About The Collection

This series shows the appearance and daily life of 4 dissimilar Latin American cities. Some images are from the year 2017, such as those of Havana, Santiago de Chile in 2018, Buenos Aires between 2019 and 2010 and Caracas from 2017 to last year, the year when I had to emigrated to Argentina. Each city offers different aspects, the light of the Caribbean in the case of Cuba and Venezuela produces images full of unique contrasts, while the delicate southern light as in Buenos Aires and Santiago de Chile leaves us that soft image with more pastel and filmic tones. I like to play with the dreamlike, almost abstract aspect of urban life, finding urban beauty is one of my passions.

  • Andrea Morbidelli

    Andrea Morbidelli

I’m an Italian boy passionate of street photography, living in a small town situated on the Adriatic Sea.
I started taking street photos in August 2019, when I bought my first Fujifilm camera that I always bring with me. When I went in Berlin with one of my friends, a talented street photographer, and I found my approach to photography.
I travel a lot since I was a child, and I am very curious to know the differences of other peoples, photos are the medium I use to approach with these different cultures.
The scenes I see during my travels are always best through my camera lens, because I became able to capture moments of unknown peoples life without interfering with them. I’m also a bit shy so, street photography in particular, is my way to approach with strangers, to understand them a little while I continually try to improve my camera skills.

  • Paul Kessel

    Paul Kessel

    Paul Kessel

After a career in clinical psychology and university teaching, I began photography late in life. (one-month shy of my 70th birthday).
I always owned a camera before this time but rarely used it. In 2008  I started photography courses at The International Center of Photography in NYC and never stopped until ten years later. Originally, I was interested in portrait photography but discovered
street photography and became immersed in it.

I became a street photography workshop junkie and I feel that I have learned from some of the best. Now when I am outside, my camera is always with me and ready.
I worked on projects for a number of years. All culminated in self-published “Blurb Books”. There are 18 of them. More recently, I shoot randomly with the hope of finding an interesting image. My random street photography is self-published in the Blurb Book, “Never the Final Edit, version 6”.

I have been in about 85 group exhibitions. Some are by invitation and most are from contests. In addition, I have had 3 solo shows at NYC Galleries.
I have been a Finalist in the Miami Street Festival twice (2017 and 2018), the San Francisco Streetfoto Festival, the London Street Festival, and I was the winner of the most recent Los Angeles street contest (“Shooting Around the World_LACP 2020). I was a Lens Culture Street Finalist (2016, 2020) and won 3rd place award in 2020.

I have also been the winner of a few other events, nationally and internationally.
I treat street photography as a sport and I have yet to hit a homerun, a hole in one, or a 3 pointer from mid court. It is the quest and the elusiveness of a truly good photograph that keeps me going.

    About The Collection

The twenty pictures included here are mostly relatively recent and are not necessarily part of a particular project. Most of them are culled from a project I had worked on, but many are random photos in public places, typically the street but sometimes on the beach, subway, or elsewhere. Most of these photographs have appeared in exhibitions. Some may appear to be portraits but all twenty are candid. I prefer to photograph multi-layered street scenes, but I often settle for a candid portrait with a bit of context.

  • Gillian Feng

    Gillian Feng

I come from Taipei, Taiwan, where I takes most of my photos. I had my first camera in 2009 and had been self-teaching for several years before I finally signed up a photography course around 2015. After learning different genres of photography, I am keen on macro and street photography. I enjoy taking photos and observing the world through the camera. With macro lens, I take a close-up look into the micro world of the nature. However, on the streets, I prefer keeping a polite distance from the subjects, with no intrusion into their life. Usually, I would look for a beautiful corner on the street and wait for an individual person melting into the scene. Sometimes, when attracted by a subject, I would, on the other hand, find a proper background to frame the subject. Street photography for me is more related to the concept of perspective and aesthetics than to a documentary record of life.

    About The Collection

The collection is selected from what I have taken for the past two years. Most of them are accomplished by the playing of light and shadow. Besides, the use of frames and negative space is one of my favorite approaches. What I try to achieve is to isolate a pleasing scene from the bustling streets of the city.

    Giancarlo Bomba

I’m Giancarlo Bomba. I’m Italian, I’m a photographer and a graphic designer as well. Due to my visionary attitude and creativity I’ve always daydreamt about a fantasy world full of images.  I clearly remember how it all began. Many years ago I happened to find a small, cheap compact camera. That was the time I first fell in love with photography and since then, I’ve never quit it.  As I grew up, I meant to improve my technique by taking classes and  attending professional courses. My personal experience, combined with educational training helped me become more self-confident even when I had to develop new visual languages. Then I had the opportunity to explore social photography as well as anything related to visual storytelling. I love both so much and I usually compare street photography to jazz,  as the latter suggests we can create order out of chaos. That’s a true inspiration, an additional insight that really makes the difference and helps capture the right, instant moments of our daily life.

I am Ozan Şafak from Turkey. I was born in İstanbul in 1978. I am a history teacher at the high school. My history with photography begun when I was a child. I first met photography with my father’s analog cameras. I wouldn’t have understood his explanations  about  cameras working principles at that time. I bought myself a camera in 2010 and started to learn the basic principles of photography myself by buying a lot of photography books. Street photography has become my  interest since 2015, which was of interest to documentary photography before.
Now  street photography is my passion. I try to photograph city life and İstanbul streets for 3 years longer. Silhouettes and Colors of Istanbul  is my main idea.  My photography is about light and shadow at the street life. I like to show the texture of the city and the loneliness of the person by using geometry,  light and shadows in my photographs.

I am a Turkish photographer, currently based in Kocaeli. Interested in photography approximately for 20 years.  Until a few years ago   i had been shooting  with analog cameras and using dark room in order to develop and print my photos. After 2016, i’ve started to shoot with digital cameras. I only produce black and white photos since i think i can express myself  better.
As long as i’ve known myself, i’ve always loved  to walk along the streets like a stray dog. While merging into crowds, amongst which I hide and lose myself and driven by the mass of people, I can feel the soul and the sense of the streets. I think this is the summary of my photography.
